A Recipe for Spaciousness

and a return to weekly wisdoms

It’s been a few weeks since our last Weaving Wisdom. Much as happened—in my own life and in the world we all inhabit. Candidly, it’s felt somewhat frivolous or irreverent to share writing about pausing to cultivate the beauty of life.

And yet, thanks to conversations with dear friends (new and old), along with wisdoms offered by nature, I’m reminded that this practice is perhaps needed now more than ever.

So I offer you, once again, these words and the kind welcome behind them which weaves us all together.

Thank you for being here.

Let’s start by taking off the headphones in places that breed a music all their own

there is no noise here to cancel away,

but there is sound, a sweet harmony for you to discover

so listen as you walk

breathe — slowly, please

and begin to see.

Look for the little things

the otherwise simple things

the extraordinary ordinary

undauntingly exploratory

the sway of branches

the dance of light

the wrinkled fingers interlocking

that tune you know — the song of life

let it fill you, move you, expand you

be broadened & deepened as you breathe all of this in.

And feel free to sigh

to draw, to write

to immerse yourself in the welcoming embrace of nature

—whatever form it takes

from lily pads to behemoths of stone

be at home in the shade, just as in the sun

feel free to hum, dare to sing

softly swing and sway from side to side

catch a glimmer of a giggle or a smile that glides

across your softening brow, as you watch now

all beings behave like just-liberated butterflies

beautiful, isn’t it?

Sigh again, if you’d like

and remember, please,

that this presence,

this spaciousness

is here

even and especially

when you believe it is not.

Reflections for Growth

  • Expansive Moments

Recall a time recently when you felt more room to breathe, feel, or simply be. What made that moment possible?

  • Intentional Inputs

When noise, pain, suffering, or conflict arise around you, how do you cultivate the space to honor them while not being lost in them? What else is important to pay intentional attention to as well?

Invitations for Practice

  • A 10-Minute Sound Reset

Pick a day this week to take 10 minutes without any external input—no news, podcasts, music, or screens. Let the sounds around you (even the imperfect ones) wash over without judgment. Breathe into the space beneath them.

  • Create Your Own Recipe

Consider what ingredients comprise your sense of spaciousness. What practices or actions nurture your presence and your peace as you live in the the constant dynamism of this world? Bring this recipe to life, incorporating it into the days ahead; and (extra points) consider sharing it with someone dear to you.

As you practice, please jot down your thoughts and experiences.

And as always, feel free to share your reflections directly with me.

May there always be more space than we can see.

Kindly,

If you’re enjoying Weaving Wisdoms, please consider sharing it with someone you feel might enjoy it as well.
